A Historic Day in Inuyama
Continuing on with our historical experience that began with Matsumoto Castle, our next stop is in Aichi Prefecture's Inuyama City. Inuyama is home to an all-original castle dating back to the 1500s. To get there, take the JR Express Wide View Shinano from Matsumoto Station to Kanayama Station in Nagoya. The trip will take you around 2 hours. From there, change trains to Meitetsu's 30-minute express train towards Inuyama. There is also a 3-hour highway bus from Matsumoto to Nagoya available. You can then take the Meitetsu express train from Nagoya to Inuyama, which will take you 25 minutes.
An All-Original Castle
The walk from Inuyama Station to the castle town takes just 10 minutes. As you make your way towards Inuyama Castle, and the oldest original castle keep in Japan, you'll find a quaint cityscape and delicious food stands selling finger foods to enjoy. You won't find any elevators at Inuyama Castle. It exists as it was centuries ago!
A Walk through Town
In addition to enjoying the sights of the castle, Inuyama is also well-known for all the fun to be had around the castle town. There are lots of places to eat and great places for photographers to get shots of retro Japan.
Narita Temple
If you've got some stamina left, Narita Temple is just a 10-minute walk past Inuyama Castle. Narita Temple is famous for its huge staircase. Climbing these stairs might leave you breathless, but the amazing view of the city from the top will leave you speechless. If you have the time, it's well worth the trip to the top. After descending the temple stairs, head back to Nagoya for dinner and a well-deserved night's rest.
