Tateyama/Kurobe Alpine Route

This is the world-leading alpine tourist route crossing the 3,000-meter level mountains; open from the middle of April to the end of November. This route extends across Toyoma and Nagano Prefectures, a distance over 90 kilometers. After the completion in 1971, one million visitors from home and abroad visit this route every year. Such tourist attractions as Shomyo waterfall with a tallest drop in Japan, Midagahara highlands with colorful flowers of alpine plants, Murodo, the highest point of the Tateyama-Kurobe alpine route and base of the mountain resort, and Kurobe Dam, Japan’s largest-scale dam. In particular, “Yuki-no-Otani”, which appears from the middle of April through the middle of June, is a must-see sight. This is the popular spot where you can enjoy strolling through between the 20-meter-long massive snow walls.
