Izu Hanahenro

A pilgrimage to three shrines. There are several theories as to the origins of this deeply reverent practice.
The three-shrine pilgrimage in the Izu-Hakone area began when Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, visited Hakone Shrine, Mishima Taisha and Izusan Jinja to pray for victory in battle. It is said that these three shrines have become the place of worship for many generals since.
These three shrines sit in a perfect triangle as if watching over Mt. Fuji.
Just as Yoritomo crossed the mountains on his pilgrimage, you too can now enjoy a journey of discovery touring these three shrines.
