Matcha Experience Tea picking (about 2 weeks in May)

Located in Okabe (Gyokuro no Sato Roadside Station), one of Japan’s three largest production regions of Gyokuro, a high quality premium green tea (the other two are Uji in Kyoto and Yame in Fukuoka). Okabe also flourished as the 21st staging post on the Tokaido Road in the Edo Period.
Enjoy a Gyokuro or matcha tea ceremony experience at Hyogetsutei, the tea room in the adjacent gardens.
In spring, the cherry blossoms bloom along the Asahina River, and in autumn, the nearby fields of cosmos flowers are at their most beautiful.
Also, once every two years, the Asahina Oryusei, a festival in which traditional Ryusei or “Ascending Dragon” skyrockets are launched, is held. This festival, a designated intangible folk cultural heritage of Shizuoka Prefecture, attracts many visitors.
