Obara Paper Art Museum
Obara Washi no Furusato, the Obara Paper Art Museum, is a museum dedicated to the traditional craft of Obara Washi, a particular type of strong, durable handcrafted paper unique to the Obara district of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The versatile paper was often used for umbrellas and the shoji sliding screens particular to Japanese houses. Visitors to the popular museum can try their hand at making their own sheets of washi, purchase washi products and enjoy creative exhibits of washi paper art from across Japan in the museum’s gallery. The Obara Paper Art Museum’s grounds are surrounded by by lush green nature, including vegetation used in the ancient papermaking processes along the pleasant walking trails.
