Off the Beaten Track: New 1 Day Ama Tour
A one-day tour is specially organized for the 2020 campaign in Toba, where they have the largest number of female divers in Japan. Through this tour, visitors can learn about the fishing, lifestyle, and faith of Japan's oldest female occupation—Ama (female divers who dive for shells and suchlike without any equipment), which have a history of over 2,000 years. The tour comes with transportation to and from Toba Station and the accompany of an English-speaking guide, and also includes a fishing demonstration by Ama at Mikimoto Pearl Island, a special lunch during the Ama hut tour where you can meet active Ama, and a Mount Aomine hike to the temple where Ama pray for safety.
