Mino Washi Paper Goods Making

Mino City, Gifu Prefecture is the production area of Honmino-shi paper, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage with a history of 1300 years. The historic “old streets lined with udatsu (dividing walls that were sometimes built on the upper floors of traditional houses in order to prevent the spread of fires)” is designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and is a popular tourist spot for its beautiful townscape.
Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd. was founded in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture in 1902, and manufactures 1,600 types of traditional Japanese goods. The company has established the “Ishikawa Mino Washi Paper Goods Workshop,” right in the heart of the “old streets lined with udatsu,” a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and a prime tourist destination in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. At the workshop, you can get hands-on experience of handcrafting traditional Mino washi paper goods. Tourists are very happy that they can enjoy the handicraft experience and buy souvenirs while sightseeing.
In the handicraft experience offered by Ishikawa Paper Goods Ltd., you can use as much Mino wash paper as you like to express your world in original art. There are staff to assist you and base materials available; even those without confidence in their skills can relax and enjoy crafting. Children and adults alike will enjoy themselves, and you can take the crafts you make home with you right away. The barrier-free facility is accessible to wheelchair users, and the handicraft experience can be enjoyed comfortably regardless of the weather. The workshop have been visited by international tourists from 23 countries.
