maintains its feudal Edo period (1603-1868) atmosphere and has been designated as a Traditional Buildings Preservation District.

Around 20 minutes by train from Nagoya Station, Arimatsu, along the famed Tokaido Highway, maintains its feudal Edo period (1603-1868) atmosphere and has been designated as a Traditional Buildings Preservation District. Arimatsu has long been famous for its traditional detailed tie-dying techniques known as Arimatsu Shibori.
Quality crafted Arimatsu Shibori dyed products were highly prized souvenirs for feudal period travelers along the Tokaido. Even now, the traditional craft is practiced and a wide range of Arimatsu Shibori items from summer yukata kimonos to tablecloths, T-shirts, ties and accessories can be found in the historical shops. Various workshops offer Arimatsu Shibori crafting experiences too.
