Senmi Shikizakura-no-Sato

Japan’s iconic cherry blossom can only usually be enjoyed in spring, however the Obara area of Aichi Prefecture’s Toyota City is home to about 10,000 rare and very special Shikizakura cherry trees that miraculously bloom twice a year, once in spring and again in conjunction with the autumn leaves of fall. About 1,200 of these special trees are planted in the Senmi Shikizakura Village area, one of the very few places you can enjoy Japan’s equally iconic colorful autumn colors, the fiery red and orange maple tree leaves, the golden-yellow ginkgo leaves, together with the exquisite pale pink cherry blossoms. Like most cherry tress across Japan, the Shikizakura cherry trees bloom around late March to mid-April, and then again in autumn from late October to early December. The best time to see them is mid to late November, in Obara.
