Enjoy majestic views from Mishima Skywalk, Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge

Shizuoka

Seemingly floating in the air, the Mishima Skywalk is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Japan, spanning an incredible 400 meters. While the views from the footbridge are spectacular, the site adults and children alike come to see is Mt. Fuji, which stands defiantly in the middle distance and is perfectly visible from the skywalk, weather conditions permitting. Japan walking holidays are a great way of seeing the country, but a trip to the Mishima Skywalk offers another pedestrian experience that is unlike anything else in the country. If you can, try and make a trip to the skywalk in the evening to witness the beautiful sunset over nearby Suruga Bay. And, for that extra adrenaline boost, why not take the time to try out the onsite zip line? At 560 meters roundtrip and 70 meters high, it will test the mettle of even the most seasoned adventurers.

Experience the timeless ritual of the Japanese tea ceremony

Shizuoka

A tea ceremony in Japan is an ancient tradition that still holds great importance to this day. Many visitors to Japan will have heard of this traditional ritual but far fewer will have experienced it firsthand. At the Fujinokuni Chanomiyako Museum, visitors can participate in the Japanese Tea Ceremony and learn about the importance of the ritual in contemporary Japanese culture. Launched in 2018, the museum is part of a greater effort to promote the area around Makinohara Plateau, Japan’s leading tea producing region, as a center for Shizuoka Tea. Discover the history of tea in Japan, learn all about how this famous Japanese export is produced, and participate in a hands-on tea experience. If you want to dive deeper, the museum offers a course on tea making in which participants learn how to use the five senses to create the perfect brew.
