Many tourists must be surprised when they see foods with gold leaf in Kanazawa City. Various foods such as coffee, ice cream, ice-cream cone, kuzukiri (sweetened kuzu-starch short noodles) and kaisen-don or bowl of rice topped with fresh seafood are served with flakes of gold leaf. Some of them are gorgeously added with gold leaf of considerable size, sometimes, as large as 10 cm2. How about the taste and texture? You will see if you have one. They may give you a little luxury. The gold leaf is a type of traditional “Kanazawa gold leaf”, but it is produced in a special method to make it edible. So, please feel at ease to eat them.
