Goheimochi is a typical food as a local dish of Mikawa district. The Goheimochi rice cake made from mashed Uruchi rice or non-glutinous rice is skewered and grilled with thick sauce on top. In oku-Mikawa area, there is a “Goheimochi map” showing 25 shops which sell different types of the rice cake so that tourists can enjoy and compare a variety of tastes. The most popular one is a large-sized, oval-shaped one piece which is skewered and grilled with sweet miso paste. It tempts you with a good smell, especially immediately after grilled and served hot. There are other variations of the shape, three small dumplings, a shape of “Gunbai” fan used by samurai warriors etc. The flavor of miso varies when it is mixed with egoma or a type of perilla, peanut or walnut etc. A set menu with Udon or wheat noodles and Soba, or buckwheat noodles is popular, too.
