Specialty of Nagoya, Uiro, is a Japanese confectionery made from Uruchi rice or non-glutinous rice and sugar. It is a steamed dessert. Different colors such as white, black, brown, green as well as pink or purple can please your eyes. Uiro gives a gentle sweetness and a chewy texture. Furthermore, different ingredients, such as black sugar, powdered green tea, sweet beans, salted cherry leaves, and chestnuts, delicately represent their original flavors. Including Mochibun Sohoten, with the longest history of uiro making, Aoyagi-Sohonke, Osu-Uiro and Suzume-Odori, and other shops are selling their original uiro or uirou.
