Take a 3,200-meter-long trip through the skies on a ropeway, with a difference in elevation of 1,033 from where you got on and where you got off. From the observatory located on the roof of the final stop on the Shinhotaka Ropeway, visitors can take in a 360° panoramic view of the Japanese Alps, with its many peaks and valleys unfolding on all sides. Nestled deep in the bosom of the alps are the Okuhida Hot Spring Villages, which is composed of five distinct hot spring villages: Hirayu, Shinhirayu, Fukuji, Tochio, and Shinhotaka. Said to be home to a greater amount of open-air hot springs than anywhere else in Japan, this secluded location drips with atmosphere. The area bustles with young people looking to enjoy the sublime combination of hot springs and skiing in the winter, and hot spring fans from across the country flock here year-round to enjoy the waters.
