This is a museum featuring the Meiji Era (1868-1912) when Japan started to adopt the western culture and laid the foundation for Modern Japan. It occupies the area of one million ㎡where 67 buildings of Meiji Era are located. These buildings were brought here both from all over Japan and some countries in the world such as Seattle, Hawaii (USA) and Brazil. 10 buildings were designated as ‘Important Cultural Properties’. Western-style stone or brick architectures such as official residences, schools, banks, churches and furnishings are well worth seeing. The rental voice guidance ‘Madonna’ is available, which explains about attractive points of each building when a pen is placed over the map. Food of Meiji Era can be enjoyed here.
