Toyama Prefecture, where the cultivation of tulip bulbs is prosperous, is proud of Japan’s No.1 production output. The history of bulb cultivation can go back to 1918 when the first cultivation started in present Tonami city, and at present, 250 varieties are being produced. In Tonami Tulip Park, from the late April through the beginning of May, one million tulips are in full bloom in multiple colors. Tonami Tulip Gallery, adjacent to the park, is the world’s one and only facility where visitors can enjoy viewing tulips all year round using such high-tech as ice tulip. The facility also houses a tulip museum featuring the tulip cultivation history, a museum shop and a cafe.
