In Shizuoka City, the model manufacturing has been flourishing since the years of the wooden model manufacturing before the Second World War. Currently, the shipment value accounts for most part of the domestic market share, and has been drawing the attention of model fans in the world. At the ‘Shizuoka Hobby Square’, which was founded in 2011 as a facility to offer information about models, such plastic models as a car, a bike, an airplane, a warship, and a building, made by model manufacturers representing Shizuoka, are all lined up. Furthermore, ‘hina’ dolls for the traditional Girl’s Festival, lacquer wares, and ‘Take Sensujizi-zaiku’ or traditional bamboo craftworks, are on permanent exhibition to promote the local industry. At the event space, various events are held every month. This is the space where both adults and kids can devote themselves in models.
