Hamamatsu Castle is regarded a ‘Castle to Success’ as this castle played a role as a foothold for Tokugawa Ieyasu to unify the country. He built the Hamamatsu Castle in 1570 in order to prepare to defend against the possible invasion of his enemy, Takeda clan to his Suruga Domain. He spent 17 years at this castle from the age of 29 to 45 years old, and went into battle from this castle. Among 25 generations of the successive feudal lord after Tokugawa Ieyasu, many of them assumed key posts in the Tokugawa Shogunate. Thus the castle is dubbed ‘the Castle to Success’. The stone walls of the quarry stones which were constructed by Ieyasu 400 years ago still remain. Inside the castle tower, Ieyasu’s armor, a video show featuring the castle history, and scale model of the castle are exhibited.
