This museum was designed by I.M.Pei, a world-famous architect for the Glass Pyramid of the Louvre and other architecture. On the grounds covers the 1million2,000 ㎡, 80% of the museum’s structure is beneath the earth to assimilate it into nature. Nature viewed from the inside the building through geometrically arranged glass roof and windows of entrance lobby is also artistic. The museum consists of the south and north wings. In the south building, the ancient Orient art with the theme of the Silk Road are exhibited, on the other hand, the north wing showcases such Japanese antiquities as Buddhism, tea ceremony utensils, ‘makie’ the golden-laquar art and lacquer wares. Special exhibitions and the workshops for kids are also held. The museum is annually open in three seasons; spring, summer and autumn.
