The most famous “Nagoya meshi” is a dish of grilled eels called “Hitsumabushi”. Even those who are not big fans of grilled eels are willing to enjoy the menu, so why not foreign guests? Your rice is topped with finely chopped pieces of eels grilled in plain Kansai style and you can continue to eat with relishes such as ‘wasabi’ horse radish, chopped Japanese leeks or pieces of seaweed, then you find it less oily than you expected. Therefore you feel like eating on and on. As the dish is served in a wooden container, help yourself to serve one helping into your rice bowl. In first round, eat it as it is, secondly try it with condiments, and thirdly pour hot tea over the rice in “Chyazuke style”. Normally, people enjoy those three different ways. In many restaurants, hot broth with savory aroma is served for the third round, which gives you even more marvelous taste.
